You in Society

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” - Krishnamurti

The average person in the United States is overweight, doesn’t sleep enough, and uses their phone more than they wish to. Something isn’t working. Keeping up isn’t keeping us healthy. Keeping up isn’t serving us. Being well-adjusted to society is not supporting us in living our best life.

Reflection:

  1. In which way are you most well-adjusted to our society?
  2. Is being well-adjusted in this way serving you?
  3. What would it mean for you to go the other way?

Action:

Take action today, no matter how small, to do things differently. Take action and do things in a way you know is better for you than the way our society seems to think is best. Do your best to be your best. Let's do this.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” - Mark Twain

For those curious, my personal answers:

  1. Phone usage and tech distraction. I catch myself scrolling many times throughout each day. I don’t know why I’m doing what I’m doing on my phone sometimes.
  2. It is not. I can feel how unconscious phone usage makes me unhappy.
  3. It would mean that I would be able to focus at a higher level on creative projects and in my work. It means that I would always prioritize human connection over what may be on my screen.

Action: Take your phone and put it in a drawer in the kitchen. If you need it, go to the kitchen to use it.
