At Least THAT Didn't Happen
Bringing awareness to what could have happened helps us see that, relatively, what did happen isn't all that bad.
Something bad happens. It sucks. But at least that didn't happen.
This is a popular stoic practice. It helps us see that as bad something can go for us, it truly could have turned out worse.
You got rear ended, but at least no one got hurt.
You messed up at work, but at least you didn't get fired.
You got sick, but thankfully it wasn't [insert worse sickness/disease here].
